Have you ever wondered why people want to escape reality, why people remain in fascinating or dreaming big but remain stuck in the same place for life? Why people tend to shorten their dreams when the game becomes big, or when the situation demands more from them? Why there is so much of the population of the world that is mediocre? From the title of this article, I am sure you have got what the article is about.
THE BLUNT SWORD
Consider a blunt sword. Will any warriors go to battle carrying blunt sword? This has got a very simple answer. A big NO. Why? Because the blunt sword is not capable of causing any damage, it’s useless and shows no potential at all. But when a warrior start working on the blunt sword against a whetstone constantly, it starts gaining its shapes, becomes sharper. The more work the warrior puts on the sword, the more dangerous it becomes, expanding its capabilities and outcomes.
Now, consider yourself and the people whom you have seen and met in your life, your relatives, friends, family, and people in your locality, city, anyone whom you know. How many of them will you consider a blunt sword and how many of them you would you call subtle? It is common that the ratio would be large. In your present life, what you hear on a daily basis is the commentary of others on the blunt sword. Your critics can’t see the future, nor do they have any single right prediction in their lives. What people hear from others on their daily life is simple people sharing their incapability, fears, limitations and lack of information in anything they have failed, or are trying to go for in their life. You could also hear from people the lack of information about yourself, what you want to do in the form of opinions- so you would remain the same as them.

Let’s start!
In most of our lives, there would be or have been people who will constantly remind us of our labels such as middle class, ordinary, mediocre. The worst part of such labels is that some people believe this, and spend their entire life in according to being guided by these labels. When the opportunities slam their doors, they say:
“I would make the safe choice, because I am simply not capable of pulling this off!”
As a child, their parents choose a career for them, selected what jobs would this kid would do. And when this kid talked about his interests, they convinced him that this kind of stuff would do nothing other than affecting your studies. These things would have happened with many people, and eventually, they have lost their interests. Now, any person who has experienced similar things might be too scared to do anything of their own. When you enter the workplace, you encounter lack of opportunities, rush hour, work pressure, work environment, work conditions, all this takes away the opportunity of exploring yourself. Gradually, you look for lifestyle, settling down, getting a girl. And this is how we compromise our greatness.
It is a simple fact that people that “People hate what they don’t understand”. This applies to anything in their life, from career, sports, relationships, etc. So, when people hear from you that you want to take a different career choice than expected by them, they are left with two options-
Either to accept that they have no idea what this is and leave it to you,
Or
Ask you what your choice and career is about and then disgrace and belittle you that this career will not earn you a single penny.
These people could be anyone, friends, family, acquaintances, or people forced on you via associations. These people have limited outlook towards life, such people think that extraordinary people don’t belong to Earth; they have come from mars, or probably, from other galaxy. Therefore, make a strong declaration in your mind that whenever these people tell you that you can’t do something, you will most certainly do. Prove them wrong! But don’t say that aloud in their face, don’t be a dog that only knows how to bark! Jump into the battle, destroy the hours left in the day, make plans for the next day and destroy that day too! Keep destroying your goals until you achieve your desired success. Stop living in criticism, challenge your critics, stop living the life pleasing others for no reason.
Take the example of a guy who was weak in English. He got rejected by a girl simply because he wasn’t able to deliver well in English in front of that girl. This thing pissed him off so much then from that day he started practicing English and put down his whole mind in learning it, until he mastered in the language. Such types of incidences actually happen in our society. You can read about tons of people achieving great things because they were disgraced, joked, made fun of or rejected at some scenario in their life. Become that person whose effect on people arises not on the basis of promises, but on the basis of results, actions and achievements.
There are countless of people saying they will do this and that every day, but in reality, they do nothing. Such people remain confused in the whole of their life, living for the pleasure of the moment. Don’t be one of those. Even your own parents will sometimes realize what you are different when you prove it to them. Until then they might keep de-motivating you. However, some parents do recognize their child’s potentials in parenting, and stand with them even when the situations go opposite. But, largely, the case is not always that happy. This kind of caring is not helpful. Keeping someone in the cage for too long, destroying their capabilities and still maintaining that you care about them isn’t the real care. So, learn to protect yourself from critics, have the power to punch off any distraction, turn the remarks into ignition, burn out your losing self, and be a great builder of your own destiny.
THE INNER MEDIOCRITY
Now, one can easily wonder that people and critics are not always the cause of their mediocrity. People can’t find success due to their own urges, desires, laziness and procrastination in the field of work and their “bonds with their hormones”. People sometimes hate taking initiative by themselves, hate going to gym, hate working out, and waking up early. One common behavioral identity common with such people is being proud. You are too happy in dreaming, and such dreaming gives them so much of strong emotions and makes you happy to the extent that you don’t want to move a muscle, and become lazier. You dream of owning yachts, bungalows, vacation homes, hangars, luxury cars, boats, jets and planes, and at the same time you don’t want to move a muscle. These are the patterns of a loser. If these patterns sound familiar to you, you have to stop being proud. If you keep repeating the same habits, you are going to lose. Each time you go outside your house, how many people you see? You may answer: many. But in reality, you don’t, because you have programmed your brain to do so. Today, when you go out, look for as many people you encounter and ask yourself this question- “How are you different from others?” What are you doing in your life that separates your existence from themselves? Everybody has dreams, which they profoundly look as creating their own empire. But the people who actually fulfill their dreams are very few, in the whole world. So, what is the major enemy that kills the dreams of so many people in the world? The answer is- excuses. When people give someone an excuse, they give them a reason why they can’t do something, and you believe that they will relate to your problem, and somehow become a participant in your suffering.
But the reality is- “Nobody gives a shit about you!”
Nobody will understand your reasons for your excuses, your suffering, and no one is going to be a proud part of standing on your sufferings. You are totally responsible for yourself. When people say that “they understand”, they are giving the sign they have already given up on you. Your excuses work only for you, and in the same circumstances, a different person may make a different choice than you did, and may take away the opportunity from you.
IMAGINARY HOLE
You need to understand one thing in your life that is unless you are the kid of a millionaire or billionaire; you are born in an imaginary hole of fascinations, and the first step you need to undertake is to climb out of those fascinations no matter what. The other option is to sit back and excuse yourself that it is too high and almost impossible to climb out. Well, you have everything the other individual has that has climbed out of the imaginary fascinations, and so can you! Stop fooling yourself by the excuses. When one day you have achieved and have entered into the league of big players, you will look back in time and realize that it is one of the most excellent decisions you undertook in your life. Just remove the thought of your parents from your mind and ask yourself these questions,-
“Who are you?”
“What you want to do?”
“Why haven’t you done it?”
In answering these questions, as soon as you will make a comparison with the reality, all your excuses will disappear. You are surrounded by walls in your house that protects you from the scorching heat of the sun, cold winds in the winter, heavy rains. Some people don’t have that. Go tell these people your excuse of not getting out of your cozy bed in the morning, your excuses will not work there. Stop distributing them to everyone, they are your problems. Now, there might be some excuses that might have some value, some real sense in them. They are the problems you need to work upon! Don’t tell all the people about your problems, because as soon as you do that, you unburden all your problems, that gives you momentarily satisfaction, but creates more troubles for you in the long run. You should instead work upon what is required and solve the problem for ever, so that it will not harm you in the long run. If you are late at work or school, apologize rather than blasting off excuses. If you can’t focus on work, accept that it is your fault in the face of those who criticize you. If you can’t function effectively, accept rather than screaming off! By not giving excuses or reasons, you accept these as your problems and your mind actually starts healing process, and you apologize and work to get off the problem. If you apologize once, make sure you not have to apologize for the same thing for life again. If you don’t change, your friends will move to other friends who are more suited to them in the future. The society never wants you to succeed. Your partner will leave you and will move for a better person. That’s how the world functions. Mark twain once said:
“The world owes you nothing. Carry on”
And finally, reduce your excuses and maximize your actions. Stop blaming your circumstances and the lack of resources. Out of 100 richest people on the planet, about 75% are self made, and 18 of them have no college degrees. 36 of them were kids of poor people. Some of them have experienced most critical and difficult times in their lives. What the hell are you excusing about? Take actions instead of crying for the whole life. Happiness is the by-product of doing things in the right direction. It is not a destination. You will only attain happiness when you are doing the right thing for you and your family. Make use of social media for connections, instead of wasting time watching others stories, chatting with random people etc..
This is how you will rise above mediocrity!
